1st May 1775 on a Snow Class ship named the Lovely Nelly captained by William Sheridan. William Douglas, Labourer, was passenger #45 and gave the reason for emigrating as " to mend himself". William married abt. 1778 to Catherine "Kitty" Millar b. 19 Dec. 1760 Muthill, Crieff, Per shire, Scotland the daughter of John and Catherine Millar. ( died Apr. 1828 Cherry Hill, Hillsborough, P.E.I., Canada.) ( see her memorial)
William did well for himself on the island through hard labour. He was a farmer and magistrate, obtaining the title of Esquire. William and Catherine had a family of 10 children.
Their Children: Thomas, John A., William 11, Robert, James, David, Elizabeth, Cathrine, Ellen "Nelly", and George Douglas.
