Mr. Monroe was a retired Franklin County agent for the Cooperative Extension Service Department of Agriculture. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He was a member of Meadville Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Monroe; his parents, James Clark Monroe and Neva Roberts Monroe; and two brothers.

He was survived by his wife, Hellon Monroe of Meadville; one son, Johnny Monroe, Jr. of Meadville; three stepsons, Steve Wentworth of Pensacola, FL, Stewart Wentworth of Jackson and Robin Wentworth of Hattiesburg; two brothers, James Clark Monroe of Gilbert and Curtis Monroe of Fulton; one sister, Neva Doler of Eupora; 3 grandchildren and 5 step-grandchildren.
