David B Becker of 57 W 5th St, an employee of the Burdan Ice Cream Co plant for 25 years, was found dead behind the wheel of his car in Gilbertsville Saturday afternoon, apparently the victim of a heart attack. Coroner Winslow J Rushong said that death was from natural causes. Mr. Becker was driving from his home to Gilbertsville on a business trip, having left home at abut 1:30 p.m. his wife said. At about 5 p.m. his body was discovered slumped behind the wheel of the car on Rt. 73 by Mrs. Dorothy Stierheim.
Mr Becker has been a driver for the Burdan Co. for 20 years. During the past 5 years he has worked in the Co. Plant at 2nd & Manatawny Streets.
He was a native of Exeter, Chester Co, and a son of the late David and Emma Becker. He has lived at 57 W 5th St in Pottstown for the past 25 years. He is survived by his wife Carrie (Wick) Becker, two children Reba, wife of Clyde Brick of Detroit, MI and Lewis of Willow Street and 2 step-children; Jacob Walters of West Chester and Bessie, wife of Charles Levengood. Also surviving are a brother Paul of Parkerford, two sisters, Rosie wife of William Bachman of Pottstown, and Candice wife of Charles Piersol of Birdsboro, and 3 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 from a funeral home at 404 High Street. Officiating will be the Rev. Edward S Horn, pastor of St. James Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park.
