She became a nurse after leaving school and by the age of 25, she was a nursing Sister at Glasgow Infirmary. She is recorded living there on the 1911 census.
At the outbreak of WWI, she began working with military hospital services and appointed to the Queen Alexandra Nursing Corp, serving with them in Malta, east Africa and the UK.
She was highly trained and qualified holding the local Government Board's Certificate for Fever Nursing which includes passes in Medical and Surgical Nursing, Anatomy and Physiology, Hygiene and Dietetics (with distinction), and infectious Diseases (with distinction). She also holds the Certificate of the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for Medical and Surgical Training.
She died 10 days after contracting Influenza, which turned to pneumonia. She was buried with military honours for her dedication to the war effort.

She was awarded the Royal Red Cross Decoration for services in Malta, central & east Africa, as well as the UK.
