Major League Baseball Player. For fourteen seasons (1992 to 2005), he played in the outfield with the New York Yankees, Milwaukee Brewers, Atlanta Braves, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Florida Marlins and New York Mets. Born Gerald Floyd Williams, he attended East St. John High School in Louisiana and played collegiate baseball at Grambling State University, prior to being signed by the New York Yankees as an amateur free agent in 1987. He made his Major League debut on September 15, 1992 and played in 15 games that season. Williams experienced a pennant-winning season with the Atlanta Braves in 1999 and recorded 3 hits during the 1999 World Series against the New York Yankees. In 2003, he briefly played for the Florida Marlins who went on to win the World Series that year. In 2000, while with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, he produced career-highs with 173 hits and 21 home runs. In 1,168 career regular season games, he compiled 780 hits with a .255 lifetime batting average. He died from cancer.
