The Honorable Tommie Lee Hill, Sr., District 5 Union County Council Member passed away on Thursday, February 3, 2022, at his residence.

A native of Santuc, SC, he was the son of the late Cornelia Johnson Hill and Harold Thompson. He was a 1968 graduate of Sims High School where he lettered in football, basketball, baseball, track, and field. For his achievements on the athletic field while attending Sims, Hill was inducted into the Union High School Hall of Fame in 2001. He received an associate degree from the College of Charleston. He was President of the Sims High School Class of 1968 Reunion and a member or McBeth Baptist Church. He was a Mason and Shriner.

He first worked for Buffalo Mill and Carlisle Finishing before becoming a City of Union Police Officer in 1976. He retired in 2000 as a Detective. His law enforcement career spanned thirty years.

In 1979, he was recognized by the Police Department as "Employee of the Month" for rescuing a man from a burning mobile home. Later, that same year he rescued a person from a wrecked burning vehicle.

After retiring, he served as an officer on a part-time basis. He ran for the office of Union County Sheriff in 2004. He was elected to Union City Council in 2006 and served for eight years. He served as a bailiff with the Union County Clerk of Court's Office until 2016. He was first elected to the Union County Council representing District 5 in 2016 and was successfully reelected to a second term in 2020.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Christina Brown; five brothers, Leroy Hill, Sr., James Hill, John Henry Hill, Marion Hill, and James Thompson; and four sisters, Susie Mae Hill, Sarah Dawkins, Mae Ruth Townsend, and Carol Edwards.

He is survived by four sons, Gary Brown of Buffalo, SC, Ronnie (Jessica) Brown of Augusta, GA, Tommie L. Hill, Jr. of Union, SC, and Jermaine L. (Angelia) Hill of Union, SC; three daughters, Leslie (Timothy) Tucker of Buffalo, SC, Shanikia Hill of Spartanburg, SC, and Quisha (Michael) Farrell of Breinigsville, PA; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; one brother, George (Sarah) Hill of Rocky Mount, SC; one sister, Maxine (Leroy) Dunlap of Union, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Friday 11, 2022 at the Union County Stadium. Interment will follow in the McBeth Church Cemetery, 1511 Cross Keys Highway, Union, SC.

The family will receive friends at the home.
