He was married to Sylvania Custer on 15 Jul 1884 in Tyler Co, WV. Sampson became editor of the Tyler Democrat newspaper at Sistersville. Sampson's death certificate states that he died at 66y 10m 8d from carcinoma of the liver at 10:00 PM. He was buried 25 Aug 1925; R.T. Campbell was the undertaker.
