Mrs. Gussie Verdery Bailey, 62, wife of the late Fred B. Bailey, entered into rest at 4:35 p.m. Saturday, October 17, 1953, at University Hospital, Augusta. Graveside services will be conducted Monday at 4 p.m. at Harlem Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. E.A. Verdery officiating assisted by the Rev. J.E. Cook. Pallbearers will be James Murray, J. Paul Stephens, Dr. James Green, W.H. Verdery, H.M. Verdery, C.R. Askew, R. McClendon and Aubrey Chafin. Mrs. Bailey was a native of Columbia County and had resided in Harlem for the past year. She moved here from Washington, Ga., where she had resided 12 years. She was the daughter of the late Augustus T. and Vannie Phillips Verdery. Mrs. Bailey was a member of the Harlem Baptist Church, Woman‘s Missionary Society and Harlem Woman‘s Club. Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. W.L. Brooks of Augusta, Mrs. J.O. Greene and Miss Clio Verdery, both of Harlem; two brothers, H.M. Verdery Sr. of Harlem and Dr. W.C. Verdery of Fayetteville, N.C., and a number nieces and nephews. Curtis-Connor Funeral Home.
