Professional Football Player. An All-American tackle out of Oregon State, he was a 4th round pick in the 1941 NFL draft by the Steelers. He was traded before the season started to the Philadelphia Eagles. He played 13 seasons and 131 games with the Eagles from 1941 through 1953. He has the distinction of having played the most on-field minutes in Eagles history since he played on both offense and defense during his career. He was part of the "Steagles" in 1943, a team formed when Philadelphia temporarily merged with the Pittsburgh Steelers due to a manpower shortage during World War II. Sears played on three Eagles teams that reached the NFL championship from 1947-49. He received All Pro mention four times. He was a durable player, only being sidelined in the 1944 season with a broken leg and missing a few games in 1947 because of stomach ulcers. He was inducted into the State of Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 1980 and the Oregon State University Sports Hall of Fame in 1991. He is a member of the NFL's 1940s All-Decade Team. Victor Wilson Sears was born in Ashland, Oregon, and died in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
