Actor, Songwriter, Magician. Best known for "Two Weeks with Love" (1950) with Debbie Reynolds. Like many actors from New York, he first started his career in Broadway in "Bright Boy" in 1944 after serving in the Navy during WWII. He was featured in "Campus Hoopla" (1946 to 1947) and was later brought to Hollywood in 1949. Carpenter gained fame when he teamed up with Debbie Reynolds in "Three Little Words" (1950) and "Two Weeks with Love" (1950). He would then appear in the lead roles of "Fearless Fagan" (1952) and "Sky Full of Moon" (1952). After 1953, he exited films for stage, television, and radio work. He would return to film in 1959 for "Up Periscope" and small independent films in the early 70s. Carpenter also composed the songs "Christmas Eve," "Cabin in the Woods," and "Ev'ry Other Day," just to name a few. He also wrote the musical "Northern Boulevard." He was also a successful mystery novelist throughout the 70s and 80s. He was active for 41 years but still worked occasionally as a stage actor in 2015. His memoir, "The Absolute Joy of Work," was published in 2016. He received a lifetime achievement award from Cinecon in 2012.
