Susanna (nee"Bealert") James was born August 30, 1745 in Germantown, Pennsylvania to Johan Jacob Behlerdt "Bealert" (1708-1770) and Maria Dorothea (born 1712). She was immediately baptized at St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Germantown, PA. On June 18, 1772, Susanna married Daniel James (1750-1817), the son of Thomas James (1690-1753) and Sarah (nee"Henderson") James (1720-1800) of Upper Merion Township, Montgomery, Pennsylvania. Within five years of their marriage, her husband Daniel enlisted in the 3rd Company of Pennsylvania Artillery and served in the Continental Army under General George Washington through the conclusion of the Revolutionary War. Following the war, Susanna and Daniel migrated south to Bedford County, Virginia where they would spend the rest of their lives. Susanna is known to have had nine children including: Daniel James, Jr., Sarah (Sallie) James, Jacob James, Joseph James, Mary (Polly) James, Thomas James, Johnston James, Jonathan James and Elizabeth (Betsy) James. She died in Bedford County in 1849.
