Janis B. Wood, 87, of Pekin, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at UnityPoint Health – Methodist in Peoria.

Born July 16, 1934 in Hillview to Lloyd H. and E. Grace (Pence) Bigham, she married Marvin G. Wood on June 8, 1957 in Neponset. He died November 30, 2018 in Peoria. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Jeanette Miller.

Surviving are three daughters, Tami S. (Warren) Sharp of Pekin, Lisa D. Barclay of Port St. Lucie, Florida and Amy J. (Rick) Ramsey of Downs.

Janis graduated from Methodist School of Nursing in 1955 and began her career in nursing at Kewanee Public Hospital until 1959. She then started working at Pekin Hospital until retiring in 1976. She was a former member of the Registered Nurses Club. In 1991, she was co-owner and operator of Pretty Woman Plus Clothing Shop in Morton until 1996.

Janis was a talented seamstress. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and doing cross stich.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Pekin, where she served on the Board, was a Deaconess, sang in choir and served as the chair of the kitchen for many years. She was a former leader of the Pioneer Girls and Awanas. She also formerly served in the food pantry at the church.

Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
