Dan Puckett, 82, of Speedwell, passed away on Jan. 16 with family at his side. He was born to parents James and Elsie Puckett on March 29, 1939, in Haysi, Virginia.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force at 18 and married his sweetheart, Peggy, in 1957. During his distinguished military career, he ranked to master sergeant, traveling and living in many places and making close friends along the way.
After retiring from the Air Force in 1977, Dan retired a second time from Martin Marietta in 1992, enjoying working at home and helping family and friends with various projects. His legacy is marked by his integrity, work ethic and love of family and friends.
Dan was known for playing guitars and having a beautiful singing voice. We will miss his sense of humor and enjoying a cold beverage while sitting on the back porch.
Dan is survived by his wife, Peggy, of 64 years; son, Jerry Puckett and wife, Sheila; daughter, Sherri Smith and husband, Eddie; son, Shannon Puckett and wife, Anne; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many beloved friends and family to mourn his passing.
The memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 29 at 1 p.m. at LaFollette Church of God. The family requests people make donations to their favorite charity in lieu of flowers.

They were married 64 years. Dan and Peggy attended a couple of the Haysi High School Class of 1958 reunions several years ago.
