Mearl Wayne Ivey, 90, of Hammon, Oklahoma was born on April 9, 1931 in Grapeland, Texas. He was the son of Roy and Gladys (Yates) Ivey. He went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 25, 2022 at his residence in Hammon, Oklahoma surrounded by his loving family.
Wayne spent his childhood and school days growing up in Grapeland with his siblings. After graduating from Grapeland High School, Wayne attended Southwestern Assemblies of God College in Waxahachie, Texas.
He married his best friend and sweetheart, Joyce Malson on June 18, 1954 in Hammon, Oklahoma. They met while attending a college class and a friendship quickly started that would last over sixty-seven years.
Wayne served his country proudly in the United States Army. After basic training at Fort Ord, California he joined the paratroopers. His paratrooper training rotated him from Fort Campbell, Kentucky to Germany and then Austria with the 11th Airborne Division. Wayne also served as a mail clerk and assistant chaplain.
After he returned home, Wayne continued his work in the ministry field. He served as pastor of Felders Chapel Assembly of God in Grapeland, Texas and First Assembly of God Church in Hammon, Oklahoma. Some other jobs that Wayne did include trucking, working in the oilfield, driving the school bus for Hammon Public Schools for over sixteen years.
Wayne enjoyed hunting, fishing and working with horses. His greatest pleasure was when he spent time with his family and friends.
