Keith Andrew Johnson
1943 - 2022

Early Life: Keith was born July 31, 1943, in the Strawberry valley of Utah, to Ronald Waddell Johnson and Lillie Giles Johnson. He was eager to enter this world, as he was delivered in the back of a vehicle between Duchesne and Wasatch Counties. After that dramatic and swift entrance to this earthly life, his knack for being the "life of the party" came by him naturally from day one. Keith's younger years involved working at a family-owned sawmill in Current and Wolf Creek locations. Keith was a state champion wrestler at Provo High School, where he graduated in 1961.
Life's Work | Service | Interests: From 1962 to 1964, he served in the North British Mission in England for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
❦ Keith started a career in retail, where he excelled and was promoted to regional manager for The Limited Corporation. This is where he met the love of his life, Verlene Seegmiller. The courting process was not an easy one, as she was not initially impressed. With a strong love of family, his kindness, and trademark perseverance, he was finally able to capture Verlene's heart. On April 20, 1974, Keith and Verlene were married in Salt Lake City, Utah, and later sealed for time and all eternity in the Provo Utah Temple on December 6, 2003. Keith has three beautiful children: Shane, Chantille, and Trena.
❦ His career in retail involved a relocation to California, and a sacrifice of family time, which eventually left him questioning his career choice. In 1990, Keith quit retail and left California with his family, keeping only his love of the San Francisco 49ers. Returning to Utah, the family bought a small barren campground in which he and Verlene had a great vision to align their love of camping as a new career opportunity. For the next 30 years, Keith and family placed their heart and souls into making Lakeside Campground a labor of love and destination location for many. With quick access to many Utah amenities, including Utah Lake, their "green and clean" vision soon came to fruition.
❦ Keith spent many days of his life fishing, traveling, camping, and all things related to the great outdoors. He often said, "God sure knows how to paint a picture" as he stared at the beauty around him. He was a brilliant business mind, and a workhorse. He loved good company, delicious food, and a great laugh. One of his favorite sayings was "Life's too short — eat dessert first." His loved ones were all happy to oblige this request. Beloved "Mountain of a Man", Keith Andrew Johnson, passed away peacefully at St. George Regional Hospital, surrounded by family on January 22, 2022, after a long and courageous battle with chronic lung disease. He was 78.
Survived By: His wife, Verlene; children: Shane (Rhonda), Chantille (Bret Alberts), Trena (Andrew Nelson); brother, Devon (Kathy); sisters: Helen Wilson and Lillian; 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, extended family, and countless friends.
Predeceased By: His parents; and brothers: Cloyd Gines and Tracy Ronald Johnson.
