Rebecca Joan was born July 5, 1934 to the late Josh and Rebecca Cranford. Rebecca Joan was married to James Ray Drum on June 9, 1957, and was divorced from James on December 7, 1959. Rebecca Joan was married on February 27, 1960 to Rodney McSwain Dixon. Joan Cranford Dixon, 82 of Woodleaf, NC passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at home from complications from Alzheimer's.

Joan was a graduate of Woodleaf High School and Salisbury Business School. She worked as a legal secretary in Statesville NC, as secretary for the North Carolina State Assembly, and as gift shop manager for the Toledo Ohio Zoo. Joan was an active member of Maumee United Methodist Church in Maumee Ohio for 37 years, and a member of South River United Methodist Church of Woodleaf, NC from 2000 until her death. Joan was very creative and loved making beautiful items for the Maumee Church Bazaar. She had an infectious personality, contagious laugh and beautiful smile.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother James Edward "Jimmy" Cranford, who died in a tragic accident in Florida in 1959. At the time of her death, survivors include her husband of 56 years, Rodney McSwain Dixon (d-2021); daughters Patricia Huckaba (Philip) of Perrysburg Ohio, Lori Hamlett of Hendersonville, TN, and Traci Miller (Robert) of Holland Ohio. Also surviving are grandchildren Vincent Dauer (Bridget), Rebekah Courtney (Michael), Bethany Leisure (Ryan), Rachel Primeau (Matt), Alex Miller (Elisha), Olivia Miller, Hannah Hamlett, Joshua Hamlett; and twelve great-grandchildren.
