A PIONEER OF MACOMB DEAD
WM. T. BROOKING, AGED 85, DIED YESTERDAY--HIS ANCESTORS FOUGHT IN THE REVOLUTION.
MACOMB, Ill., Feb. 8.--Wm. T. Brooking died at his residence, 826 West Carroll street, yesterday, aged 85 years. Born in Union county, KY., he came to this state in 1834, with his father, the late Thomas A. Brooking. He was one of a family of 13 children, only two of whom are now living, A. V. Brooking, of Macomb, and R. E. Brooking, of Pierpont, S. D. The Brookings come from a family of soldiers. His grandfather's father and his grandmother's father were colonels in the Revolutionary war, while his father, Thomas A., and grandfather, Thomas V., both bore arms in the war of 1812. Mr. Brooking himself was present at Nauvoo at the time of the trouble with the Mormons.
Deceased was married to Louisana Walker, March 7, 1850, and to their union six children were born, three of whom are living. They are: Lucien Brooking, of Nebraska; W. A. Brooking and Mrs. Walter Winshaw [sic], of Macomb. Mrs. Brooking died in 1902.
For twenty years he was a member of the school board and in 1870 was assessor of Macomb township. He was prominently associated with the Masons.
