She was the daughter of Luther B. Slaughter and Lillie Jean Lumpkin Slaughter.
She married John Reed Adkins, Sr. January 1942, who predeceased her, and she later married Earl R. Lewis who also predeceased her.
In addition to her parents, first husband, and second husband, she was predeceased by her son Johnnie Reed Adkins; her stepsons Wayne Manning and Steve Manning; her brothers Douglas Slaughter, James C. Slaughter, Lester M. Slaughter, Robertson L. Slaughter, Lonnie Slaughter, and Jesse B. Slaughter; and her sisters Willie Cassada, Ester Allen, and Corinna Blair.
Left to cherish her memories are her daughter-in-law Sharon W. Adkins; her grandchildren Michael Adkins (Lynn), Jason Adkins (Shauna); her great-grandchildren Jesse Adkins, Andrew Adkins, and Cassie Adkins; her stepdaughter Gail Manning of Greensboro, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 20, 2022, at Highland Burial Park with Pastor Mitch Cifers and Mr. Jason Adkins officiating. The family requests in lieu of flowers and food, memorial donations may be made to the Providence Baptist Church or Danville/Pittsylvania County Cancer Association.
