Mary Frances Osborne Haydon passed away on January 15, 2022. Born to Spencer and Louise Mudd Osborne, she departed this world in the same way that she lived her life: on her own terms and surrounded by her children who loved her so much. Better known to her grandchildren and great grandchildren as Mema, she lived by the values of faith, family and food learned from her parents while growing up in the Burg. Her Catholic faith was deep and was the foundation by which her life was guided. Beyond her faith, nothing was more important to her than her family. She and her husband, C.H. enjoyed nearly seventy-two years of marriage before he passed away in 2020. Together they built not only a family but also a legacy that includes eight children, thirty-one grandchildren and fifty great grandchildren. She saw to it that her home was a central hub of activity where everyone in this large family was welcomed and visited frequently. No matter the time of day or the circumstances you left with a full stomach and the absolute certainty that you were loved. The plaque that hangs in her hallway that reads "Mema's house, where cousins go to become best friends" speaks to the environment that she created and the love that she shared. In addition to her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by her son Mike Haydon, granddaughters, Ann Haydon and Maria Lee Haydon, grandson Phillip Joseph Carney, daughter in law, Elizabeth "Bess" Grider Haydon, son-in law Steve Hale, and grandson in law, Brian O'Cull. Also preceding her in death were her brothers Joe Spencer Osborne, Bobby Osborne, Jimmy Osborne and Will F. Osborne, sisters, Mabel Patterson, Rosemary Baker, Bessie Medley, Lucille Osbourne, and many, many friends. She is survived by her sons Charlie (Mary) and Joe Pat (Nell), daughters Mary Ann Hale, Nancy Carney (David), Betty Carol Barber (Louis), daughter in law Lisa Jones Haydon (Mike) all of Springfield and son Hugh (Kim) and daughter Laura of Louisville. Her thirty-one grandchildren and fifty great grandchildren gave her tremendous joy and also survive. Other survivors include sisters Therese Allen, Louise Hicks (Paul), Aline O'Mary, Shirley Rogers, and sister-in-law Amanda Osborne. Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home in Springfield in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be on Wednesday January 19 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation also on Thursday January 20 from 8:00-9:30 a.m.. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Dominic Church at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday January 20. The family asks that face coverings be worn by all of those attending the visitation and funeral services. The funeral mass will be officiated by Rev. David Farrell, Rev. Culpepper Elliott and Rev. Mark Hamilton.
