Louis worked during his life as an apprentice tailor, traveling salesman, bartender, wallpaper hanger and boarding house owner. His father John Kohus was a merchant tailor. John died in 1875 when Louis was still a teenager. Louis and family moved to Addyson, Ohio about 1892, where he and his wife Julia ran a boarding house.
The dog in the photo is named Tramp. Tramp, a Scotch Terrier, was a rat dog. In a Louisville, Kentucky contest held on 28 Mar 1895, Tramp won by killed 50 sewer rats contained in an 8 foot square pit. He did it in 22 Minutes and 20 seconds. The results were posted in the Louisville newspapers. Those were truly different times.
Louis Kohus died at age 49. The funeral was held 7 Dec 1907, Saturday morning at 8:30 from St Frances de Sales Church.
He is buried in Section 32, Lot 5
