ELKHART, IN, -- - Eleanor M. Losure Hill, 91, of Elkhart, died Monday January 10, 2022, at her residence in Elkhart. She was born January 19, 1930, in Elkhart, Indiana to Charley R. and Ethel (Hartman) Cripe.
She married Max E. Bell on June 26, 1981, and he preceded her in death on February 16, 1991. She then married John G. Hill on March 20, 1996, and he preceded her in death on March 27, 2013. Surviving are her 2 children, Cynthia A. (Douglas) Grant of Elkhart, Dr. Thomas (Janice) Losure of Belvidere, IL, 4 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and one more on the way. Also surviving are 2 stepchildren, Jan (Robert) Booker of Humble, TX, John G. (Dayne) Hill, Jr. of Orange, TX and 3 step grandchildren.
Eleanor received her bachelor's degree from Goshen College and her master's degree from Ball State University. Eleanor taught English at the Elkhart Community School System for 25 years, teaching at Pierre Moran for 5 years, at the Senior Division for 5 years and Memorial for 15 years. She retired in 1988 and moved to Mission, TX where she taught English at McAllen High School in McAllen, TX for 7 years retiring in 1994 after 32 years of teaching. After moving to Blue Eye, Missouri she substituted in the High School there as well as working for the Blue Eye School District's Learn and Serve America grant coordinator for 4 years. That program is an off shoot of President George H.W. Bush's 1000 Points of Light. After moving back to Elkhart in 2005, she substituted in the High Schools for 3 more years.
Eleanor was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Elkhart, a member of the Indiana retired Teachers Association, a member of the Texas retired Teachers Association, the Four Arts Club in Elkhart and Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.
Due to the current COVID Epidemic her funeral and burial will be private for immediate family only. She will be laid to rest at Yellow Creek Cemetery next to her husband Max. Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with her care.
