JOHN G. HILL, SR.
April 30, 1925 – March 27, 2013

ELKHART- John G. Hill, Sr., 87, of Elkhart passed away at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday (March 27, 2013) at the Center for Hospice Care-Elkhart.
He was born April 30, 1925 in Port Arthur, Texas to John A. & Inia B. (Pruitt) Hill. On March 20, 1996 in Mission, Texas he married Eleanor (Cripe) Bell. She survives along with 2 children, John G. (Dayne) Hill, Jr., of Orange, TX, Jan E. (Robert) Booker of Westerville, OH, 2 step children, Cynthia (Douglas) Grant of Merchantville, NJ, Dr. Thomas (Janice) Losure, D.O. of Belvidere, IL, 3 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 twin sisters, Virginia Stockton and Kathleen Youngblood. As a high school student John was a certified automobile mechanic. John served in the US Army Ordinance Company 445th Heavy Automotive Maintenance during W.W.II in France and Germany. After the war he taught automotive theory at West Point until he decided to go to Baylor University at Waco, Texas where he graduated with a BBA in 1950. During his business career he owned several business including Hill Piper Aircraft Flight School where he trained pilots, sold airplanes and flew charter service. He also owned Thrifty Car Rental Co. and a picture framing business among others. John was very active in the Masonic Lodge and Shrine in Galveston, TX where he served as Potentate in Galveston. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Shrine Burs Institute for six years. John was a member of the Elkhart Elks Lodge #425, Trinity United Methodist Church and a member of the Seekers Sunday School class at the church. Visitation for family and friends will be from 1-2 p.m. on Wednesday at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday (April 3, 2013) at the funeral home. Pastor Ron Bowman will preside.

Burial will follow at Yellow Creek Cemetery in Goshen where full military rites will be rendered.
