OUR DEAD
Scammon, Kans. - Dec. 25, 1913
Middleton Bigham was born in South Carolina, April 11, 1837, was married to Mary Fones of Perry County, Ill., Oct. 11, 1860. To this union 10 children were born, five of them precede him to the land where no traveler has returned; also 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Died Dec. 20, 1913, being 76 years, 8 months old. He was converted Feb. 1, 1899. Prior to his conversion was in poor health, but at time of his making peace with God the Lord saw fit to heal him of which he constantly gave the blessed Savior the praise. The above event was a great relief to him as well as members of the family, for part of his relattives had labored hard that he might be at peace with God.
Bro. Bigham, during his last days, asked the church to sing and pray while he was dying. He said shout me through the valley and shadow of death. I fear no evil, so bereaved ones, why should we grieve, when angels are keeping a watch over the graves where our loved ones are sleeping. For the God of the living has truthfully said there is joy for the dying, there is rest for the dead.
The funeral was conducted by Rightes at Holiness Mission, in Scammon, Kans., after which he was laid to rest in the Mineral cemetery, on the old homestead he entered from the government.
We know if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made by hands, eternally in the heavens.
Most are scatted no wand fled,
Some are married, some are dead,
All may meet on that blessed shore
And reign with Christ evermore.
