Betty Jean David, 81, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend met her Creator on December 22, 2007. Betty was born in St. Louis, Missouri to Frank and Lee Barnicle on August 10, 1926. She met and married the love of her life, Paul David, in that city on January 23, 1943. Paul was in the U.S. Coast Guard and after the birth of their daughter, Chereyl, Betty joined him on Chincoteague Island near Norfolk, Virginia, until he was discharged. Paul moved the family to Bakersfield in 1947 to pursue work in the oilwell servicing business following his older brother's lead. In 1951, Paul and Betty met Bob and Helen Grogan and began a friendship that would last a lifetime. Betty had a second daughter, Sherrie, on July 3, 1961 and a granddaughter, Natalie, on August 30, 1988. She remained deeply committed to her family throughout her life and raising her two daughters and spending time with her granddaughter was her ultimate joy. Betty was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Paul David; daughter, Sherrie Hamilton; sister, Ruth David and husband, Wilford; brother and sister-in-law, Russell and Gladys David; sister-in-law, Lois Wittig; nephews, Vernon and Terry David and some distant relatives in Missouri. Her loving memory will be cherished by her daughter, Chereyl Beam and son-in-law, James Beam of Pacifica, CA; granddaughter, Natalie Hamilton of Tehachapi, CA; niece, Karen Fitch of Ballwin, MO; nephew, David Wittig and wife, Judy of Ventura, CA; and several great nieces and nephews. She will also be lovingly remembered by her dear friends of 56 years, The Grogans and their family, as well as many acquaintances and friends in her church family. A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 28th, 1:00 p.m., at Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary, 9101 Kern Canyon Road. Those who wish to pay their respects may do so from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in the Hillcrest Mortuary, prior to the service. Betty was a devout Christian and longtime member of the First Church of the Nazarene. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to her church or a charity of your choice.
