Mrs. Rankin was born on January 3, 1942 in Augusta County, a daughter of the late Ernest and Geneva Edna (Altizer) Bottenfield.
Mrs. Rankin was a member of the St. John's Reformed Church. Following her retirement from Smith's Transfer, Elda was employed by the News Leader, the Meating Place, and Best Western. She enjoyed shopping and spent the last 18 years loving and caring for her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband of 50 years, Mrs. Rankin was preceded in death by a sister, Zelma Lucas.
Surviving is a daughter, Tamara "Tammy" Leach and her husband David of Deerfield; two brothers, Robert Bottenfield and his wife Jean and Eddie Bottenfield and his wife Jackie; a sister, Judy Bryant and her husband Wayne all of Staunton; two grandchildren, Ryan M. Simmons and his wife Amber and Hailey B. Rankin Simmons; a great grandson, Cooper Aiden Simmons and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service will be conducted 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 27, 2019 in St. John's Reformed Church Cemetery.
It is suggested those desiring make memorial contribution to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
