Sam Moore Hopkins, age 78, of McDonough, passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2021. He was born in Washington, Georgia to the late Orlando Wood Hopkins and Christine Hopkins. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Sue Cofer.

After 26 years of dedicated service, Sam retired as a Lt. Colonel in the US Army. He was a chemical officer who excelled in math and science. He served in the Vietnam war and loved his country dearly. After retiring from the Army, Sam began his second career teaching math and science in Henry County Schools. He was loved by his fellow teachers, administrators, and especially students.

His greatest love of all was his wife Elaine and his two daughters. He treasured all that made him a husband, father, father-in-law, and most importantly a grandfather. Never too busy or tired to encourage, instruct, celebrate, or console, he was the "true center" of his family.

A longtime member of McDonough Presbyterian Church, he set an example of a true believer and a joyful soul. He was the best storyteller with vivid detail and imagination. He captured the hearts of all he encountered and was the bright spot at any gathering.

Mr. Hopkins is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elaine; daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly and Rodney Bowler, Julie and Deric Garcia; grandchildren, Kyle Bowler, Emily Bowler, Haley Garcia and Lauren Garcia.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at McDonough Presbyterian Church with Rev. Peter Thornton officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday January 15, 2022 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at McDonough Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to McDonough Presbyterian Church.
