Badly Hurt When Hit by Auto in Second Street

D. M. Markley, 67 years old, of 1519 Green street (sic), suffered fractures of the pelvis and the right shoulder when struck by an automobile said to have been driven by Roy H. Walton, 423 South Fourteenth street (sic), at the corner of Second and Mulberry streets early yesterday afternoon. His condition is not regarded as serious.

Walton was driving north in Second street (sic) when Markley started to cross the thoroughfare. The pedestrian was compelled to run to escape being hit by a machine going south in Second street, and he ran into the path of Walton's car, according to witnesses.

D.M. Markley, an insurance man, of 1519 Green street (sic), who was struck by an automobile in South Second street (sic) on August 7, died of his injuries early today at a local hospital. He was 67 years old.

Injuries Suffered Three Weeks Ago Fatal to David Myers Markley

David Myers Markley, 67 years old, of 1519 Green street (sic), died at a local hospital early today from injuries suffered when struck by an automobile at Second and Mulberry streets, on August 7.

Markley, who was an insurance agent for thirty-three years and formerly an assistant superintendent for the Metropolitan Insurance Company, was run down by a machine driven by Roy H. Waltoon, of 423 South Fourteenth street (sic), according to the report received by police.

Dr. H.F. Gross said that a fractured pelvis, suffered in the accident, was the cause of Markley's death. Rudolph K. Spicer, deputy county coroner, conducted a preliminary investigation today. He said Dr. J.H. Kreider, county coroner, will set the time for an inquest upon his return to this city tomorrow.

Surviving Markley are his widow, Mrs. Annie V.; one son, Wayne L., at home, and two brothers, George S. and Harry B., both of Mechanicsburg. Markley had been a member of the First United Brethren Church.

Markley and John Bingham, 211 Keiker street (sic), were crossing Second street (sic) at Mulberry. They were held up in the middle of the street by traffic when the Walton machine, preceeding northward in Second, struck Markley and knocked him down. Walton took Markley to the Polyclinic Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at his home, 1519 Green street (sic), Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, to which relatives and friends are invited. Burial will be made in Trindle Springs Cemetery. Body may be viewed Thursday night, 7 to 9.
