NEWPORT NEWS - Betty W. Shipley passed away at Riverside Regional Medical Center on Wednesday, April 26, 2006. A native of Stanly County, N.C., she had been a Peninsula resident for 39 years. Mrs. Shipley was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Whitley.
Survivors include her husband of 45 years, John L. Shipley; two sons, Bryan Scott Shipley with Debbie Mack and JoJo Shipley with Emily Carver; two grandsons, Timothy Whitley and Ben Shipley; her sister, Myra Hejl with Fred; niece, Courtney Hejl; and Betty's best friends, Nicole, Whitney, Emma, Libby, Mason, and special friends, her SAGNU SISTERS.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, April 28, at Peninsula Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 11835 Canon Blvd., Suite A-102, Newport News, VA 23606, or the National Kidney Foundation, 1515 N. Military Hwy., Suite 106, Norfolk, VA 23502. Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
