Karen Evans, a longtime resident of Sparks, Nevada, passed away on January 1, 2022. Karen was born in Waltham, Massachusetts, and later lived in Florida, New Hampshire, Alaska, California, and Nevada.
A beloved mother and lifelong volunteer, Karen made a positive impact on everyone she encountered, from her family and close friends to the immeasurable number of people she served during nursing career, Karen always helped others before considering herself. She began her nursing career after graduating cum laude from Boston College in 1971, achieving a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, then was commissioned into the Air Force in 1972. Karen's Air Force service relocated her family all around the United States, finally landing in California, where she continued her nursing career in the Susanville area. Karen and her family later moved to Sparks, Nevada where she served as a Flight Nurse for more than 19 years with REMSA's CareFlight. A true patriot, Karen continued her military service after being commissioned in the Air National Guard in 1997. She continued her education, achieving her Master's in Health Care Administration with honors in 2001. Karen retired from the military in 2010 holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and also retired from her nursing career in 2013 to enjoy knitting, traveling, and to spend time with her family and dogs.
Karen's friends and family deeply loved her and know their lives and each life she touched are better because of her influence. Karen, we love and thank you. Rest in peace.
A private burial service for family and close friends will take place at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Cemetery.
