Butriss Estelle Stewart was the daughter of William Riley Stewart and Butriss Eveline Fowler. She was born in Ellis County, but grew up in Cottle County, Texas. Throughout her life, she used her middle name, Estelle, rather than her first name.

In Jun 1917, Estelle Stewart and her first cousin once removed, Whitfield Chamblin Mackin, took out a marriage license. This was announced in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram on June 20, 1917. Estelle's mother and Whitfield's grandmother were half-sisters. The 1920 Census found them living in Mineral Wells, Palo Pinto County along with Estelle's brother, John Preston Stewart. By 1930, they had moved to Dallas where Whitfield was working as a salesman for an electric supply company and Estelle was working as a stenographer. Before 1940, the couple divorced.

The April 1940 Census found Estelle living in Dallas as a lodger and working as a typist at a bank. Four months later, in August 1940, Estelle Stewart Mackin married Frank Orin Barden, Jr. in Wise County, Texas. The 1950 Census found the couple living in Washington, D.C. and both working for the U. S. military. Frank was an information specialist for the U. S Army Engineers and Estelle was working as a contract expeditor for the U.S. Navy. The couple divorced in 1957 in Florida.

After her divorce, Estelle used the name Mrs. Estelle Stewart. She lived in Dallas until her death in 1980. She was the last of her many siblings to pass away.
