Gary was born on August 24th, 1959 in Houston, Texas. He graduated from Northbrook High School, Class of 1977 and attended San Jacinto College to study mechanics. He was a skilled mechanic and worked for Tom Peacock Chevrolet for many years, before changing careers later in his life, working in the Engineering Department for the Texas Highway Department of Transportation, as well as for Costello, Inc. Engineering and Surveying.
Gary had a passion for the outdoors and loved hunting, fishing, and water skiing. You could always find him boating with friends and family on the Trinity River at his parents' home in Riverside, Texas, and he taught many to waterski over the years. Gary loved big gatherings with the Carter Clan and lots of "extended family" friends, always with plenty of good food on the grill, good cold beer on ice, and good country music blaring on the speakers. As far as he was concerned, the more the merrier, and everyone was always welcomed at the Carter River House.
Gary maintained numerous close and loyal friendships with many of his high school friends, some of which he had known even from junior high school and his elementary school days. These special bonds lasted throughout his life and meant the world to him. Gary's family is extremely grateful for these lifelong friendships and consider each and every one as part of their extended family.
A graveside service will be held at 11am on Friday, January 29th at Riverside Pioneer Cemetery. A reception gathering of family and friends will be hosted by Riverside Baptist Church immediately following the service for anyone who would like to attend.
