Margaret (Lynn) Bay, 91, passed away on December 27, 2021 in Colusa, California. Margaret (known as "Maggie"), the second child of Simon and Phyllis Lynn, was born July 6, 1930 in Oklahoma where she spent her first six years. The family then moved to Orland, California where she attended school, graduating in 1948. While working at the Frosty Freeze, Maggie met Herbert "Casey" Bay, and they married October 1, 1949. Together they had a successful farming operation in Artois. Maggie and Casey had two children, Gary, born in 1951, and Sandra, in 1953. In 1963, the family built a house on their farm property where Maggie continued to reside until her death. After raising their children, Maggie worked seasonally at Duche's and Crane's for several years. Maggie and Casey enjoyed going to Colusa and Crescent City to fish and socialize with good friends. Maggie was known for many things, including being an excellent cook and making the best Okie-fried chicken, pork roast, and lemon meringue pie. Her dinner table was always a welcome place to family and friends who stopped by. She began the tradition of harvesting and squeezing pomegranates each fall, and passed on her craft of making zucchini relish and pomegranate jelly to her kids and grandkids. Maggie was a wonderful seamstress and crafter, sharing her unique creations with others. She loved to play pinochle and passed that passion on to her kids and grandkids.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 54 years, and her brothers, Jim and Calvin. She is survived by her children, Gary (Sandy) of Helena, Montana, and Sandra of Willows, and sister, Erma of Capay. She is also survived by grandchildren, Brandon, Brianne, Brett, Ashley and Amber, and 14 great grandchildren.
Services are held under the direction of Sweet-Olsen Family Mortuary. A graveside service will take place at Artois Cemetery on Saturday January 8, 2022 at 11 AM.
