Rural Thayer Man Is Killed in Crash

THAYER - A 23-year-old rural Thayer man was killed Saturday when the car he was driving crashed into a creek about 12:45 a.m. about nine miles southeast of Altoona on a Wilson County road.
Killed was Phillip R. Hopkins, 23, of R. 1, Thayer, Kansas Highway Patrol officers said the Hopkins car was southbound on the road when it slid broadside into a bridge and came to rest in the creek.
Hopkins was pronounced dead at the scene by Ralph Sumner, Wilson County coroner from Fredonia. The body was taken to the Knickerbocker - Timmons Funeral Home in Fredonia.
Hopkins was born on Aug. 25, 1952, in Guntersville, Ala., a son of Henry and Sue Hopkins. He is survived by his mother and by his wife, Mrs. Mildred Hopkins of Newport, Ark.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Love Funeral Home in Dalton, Ga. Burial will be in Dalton.
