A son of Phineas Earl Peck and Anna Smith, John served as First Selectman of Woodbridge, elected 1877 and 1879. According to a Peck Family genealogy, John "formerly resided in New Haven, where he was a master builder, doing an extensive business. He married first, Jennette Baldwin; second, [her half-sister] Louisa Baldwin."
