Cecil Anderson of Rockwell City, age 21 and recently discharged from the army, was drowned in the Des Moines river near Bellville, while swimming across the river. The current was swift at the time.

He was swimming with a crowd of boys, all from Stratford. He went down in ten feet of water. His friends thought he was diving. The body was not recovered. (note: published after the body was promptly located.)
