Funeral services are being held today (Thursday) for Phoebe Jane Merkley Bills Colton, 66, in the Maeser Ward Chapel beginning at 1 p.m.
Mrs. Colton died at her residence about 4:30 Sunday afternoon.
She was born September 15, 1886, in Maeser, a daughter of George Davis and Phebe Ann Hacking Merkley. She married George F. Bills, July 3, 1906. He died June 21, 1907. On October 11, 1911, she was married to F. E. Colton. She was active in church work of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served a number of years as president of the Relief Society.
Survivors include her husband, seven sons and daughters, George F. Bills, Richland, Washington; Elizabeth Lombardi, Colfax, California; Elmo D. Colton, Richfield; Lela Goodrich, Moses Lake, Washington; Sterling Colton, Boise, Idaho; Clara Hall, Vernal and Garth M. Colton, Vernal; three stepchildren, Anna Bench, Duchesne; Mar Caldwell, Vernal and Frank E. Colton Jr., Salt Lake City; 29 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Eleanor Hall, Vernal and Mrs. Audrey Richens, Vernal and three brothers, John Henry, Vernal; Parley P. Merkley, Mesa, Arizona and Morgan Merkley, Vernal.
Burial will be in the Maeser Fairview Cemetery under the direction of the Vernal Mortuary.

Phoebe Jane Merkley is the daughter of Phebe Ann Hacking and George Davis Merkley. She married George Franklin Bills July 3, 1906. He died in 1907. She married Frank Edwin Colton October 11, 1911 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They have six children.
