John Henry Merkley, 64, Maeser Farmer and stockman, died at his home, sometime Tuesday. His body was discovered by his son, Harold at 5 a.m. Tuesday near the barnyard.
Funeral services will be held Friday at noon in the Maeser Ward Chapel with burial in the Vernal Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Vernal Mortuary Thursday evening and at the residence in Maeser Friday morning from 10 a. m. until the time of services.
Mr. Merkley was born October 4, 1889, at Vernal, a son of Deorge Davis and Phebe Ann Hacking Merkley. He had been a farmer and stockman all his life, and at the time of his death was a director of the Raven Oil Company. He was married to Sylvia Caldwell February 23, 1916, at Vernal.
Survivors include the widow, two sons: Reed H., San Francisco and Harold M., Vernal; two daughters: Melba Holfeltz, Salt Lake City; Mathel Bryant, Vernal; two brothers: Parley P., Mesa, Arizona and Morgan Merkley, Vernal; two sisters: Audrey Richens, both of Vernal; and two grandchildren.

John Henry Merkley is the son of Phebe Ann Hacking and George Davis Merkley. He married Sylvia Caldwell February 23, 1916 in Vernal, Utah. They have four children. One son Harold Marion Merkley died in 1980.
