T. J. Sterling
Norfolk - Thomas Jefferson Sterling, 80, of Norfolk, died Saturday in a Norfolk hospital after a long illness.
A native of Naxera, Gloucester County, he had been a Norfolk resident for more than 50 years.
He was a navy veteran of World War I, the retired owner and operator of Sterling Transfer Co. of Norfolk, and a member of Severn Presbyterian Church of Naxera.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Myrtle G. Sterling; a daughter, Mrs. Carolyn J. Matthews of Nolanville, Tex.; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Myrtle F. Rivenbark and Mrs. Virginia May Blackburn, both of Virginia Beach; three sons, Thomas D. Sterling of Norfolk, Donald W. Sterling of Virginia Beach, and Richard A. Sterling of Chesapeake; four stepsons, John L. Summers of Norfolk, Lee E. Summers and George T. Summers, both of Houston, Tex., and James V. Summers of Chesapeake; a sister. Mrs. Sadie S. (Etheridge) of Norfolk; 40 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Holloman-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, Virginia (Beach).
Burial will be in Severn Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Gloucester County.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.
