Donald G. MacDonald, 95 of Sarasota, FL, formerly of Oshkosh WI, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2021 with family by his side. He was born August 3, 1926 to Clifford and Adelaide (Mirkes) MacDonald of Oshkosh where he spent the majority of his life. Donald served in the US Navy during WWII. He returned home after the war and earned his Bachelor's degree in teaching, eventually excelling as a smooth-talking salesman for World Book Encyclopedia and George F Cram Co.
Donald married Mary Patricia Manross on August 12, 1950 in Oshkosh, WI. They shared over 56 years together. He loved spending time with his family and friends, vacations at cottages on the lake, playing board games and was always up for a good game of cards especially poker and gin. There was rarely a time when you visited him that he wasn't listening to his favorite music or watching old movies.
He is survived by his 5 children: Thomas (Amy) MacDonald of Vienna, VA, Mary Kathleen (Stephen) Zwicky of Oshkosh, WI Mary "Peggy" (Randal) Binder of Bradenton, FL, Timothy (Holly) MacDonald of Bradenton, FL & John MacDonald of Maple Grove, MN. He is further survived by 8 grandchildren: Eric, Chris, Joe, Andy, Bob, Jimmy, Peter and Cody, & 6 great-grandchildren.
Donald was preceded in death by his wife Patricia, his father, mother, stepfather & stepmother (Harold & Anna MacDonald), siblings: Mary, Bill, Joyce and grandson Matthew Binder.
Services will be held at a later date.
