Norman Richard Able, 93, Martinsville, went home to his Lord and Savior at 7:15 a.m. on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at his home surrounded by his caring family.

Norman was born on Monday, October 29, 1928 in Sullivan, Indiana, to the late Talbert and Bernice (Palmer) Able.

Norman was a 1946 graduate of Sullivan High School. He dedicated his life to full-time Christian service on a Sunday morning in June 1946. In the fall of 1946 Norman enrolled at Johnson Bible College. He preached his first sermon at the Knox County Jail in Knoxville, Tennessee. He had his first half-time student church at the Church of Christ in Duhring, West Virginia. He always joked that they gave him $10.00 a week for preaching. Norman graduated from Johnson Bible College in 1950 and was ordained into Christian Ministry on June 10, 1950 at the First Christian Church in Sullivan, Indiana.

In July 1950, Norman was called to preach at the Whitewater Christian Church in Whitewater, Indiana, where he met his future wife, Roberta, a 1950 graduate of Whitewater High School. Roberta went on to attend Cincinnati Bible College for one year and they dated by correspondence. They were married on July 27, 1951 at the Whitewater Christian Church. After their marriage, Norman took a position in 1952 at the First Christian Church in Andrews, Indiana. Norman was the minister at Andrews until 1955 when they moved to Hamilton, Indiana, and he was the minister at the Hamilton Church of Christ. In 1957 Norman took a position at the First Christian Church in Marshall, Illinois, and was there two years. In 1959 he moved to the First Christian Church in Hartford, Kentucky. He was in Hartford until 1968 and then he moved to Williamsport Christian Church in Williamsport, Indiana. After being at Williamsport for two years he was called to serve the Martinsville area at Liberty Christian Church. He was the minister at Liberty until 1985 and then he moved to Alliance, Ohio, for three years, then he moved to Clarks Hill, Indiana.

Norman retired in 1993 at the age of 65 and still stayed busy with the Lord's work. He was the interim preacher at Paragon Christian Church in 1994 and then was the interim preacher at Centennial Christian Church in 1995. Norman stayed busy working with The Waters in Martinsville and preaching for the residents there. In 2004, he became an elder at the River Valley Christian Church and was very instrumental in the development and growth of the church.

Norman was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta (Wood) Able, whom passed away on October 3, 2013; his parents, Talbert and Bernice; brother, Robert Able.

Funeral services will be 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 12, 2021 at the River Valley Christian Church, 4295 Egbert Road, Martinsville, Indiana, with Kevin Able officiating. Visitation will be prior to the funeral service starting at 1:00 p.m.
