Born in Chesnee, SC on October 14, 1918, to the late Cletus and Louise (Hicks) Cudd, he was the oldest of five children; beloved husband of the late Mary (Tangney) Cudd of 54 years.
Graduated Chesnee High School, Chesnee, SC, where he was president of his class; attended Furman College and George Washington University, where he received a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1950.
A World War II veteran, was Chief Electronic Technician in the Coast Guard and then the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Bighorn. He spent 30 years in the Dept. of the Air Force as a civil servant at Hanscom AFB.
In retirement, George turned his attention to residential real estate and other entrepreneurial ventures.
A resident of Dedham, MA, since 1959; an avid reader and lifelong learner, George valued education and hard work. His vast family was his greatest source of pride and his greatest legacy.
Survivors include his children, Diane Capodilupo (Peter), Karen Dowd (Stephen), George Benjamin Cudd Jr. (Martha), Robert Cudd, William Cudd, and Joanne Massey (Robert); 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Gerald Cudd, and sister, Gwen Duarte.
Predeceased by a grandson, Stephen P. Dowd Jr.; brothers, Byron and Berryman.
Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St. DEDHAM, Tuesday at 10 am. Funeral Mass in St. Mary Church, Dedham at 11 am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Monday 4-8 pm. Interment Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham.
