Wilma was born on August 18, 1925, near Wheeler, Illinois, the youngest daughter of Pearl R. Clagg and Pearl I. (Martens) Clagg. She married Lawrence Dean Cochran on February 8, 1948. They were married for over 54 years before his death on May 19, 2002.

Wilma attended Wheeler High School for one year and graduated from Newton High School with the class of 1944. She attended Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana; and trained to be a teletype Western Union operator. Working for Western Union took her to Waukegan, Illinois. In August, 1947, she became the Western Union Manager in Newton, Illinois. She worked as a cook at Muddy Grade School and later at the Senior Center in Newton. She was a member of the Latona Church of Christ since 1937.

Wilma is survived by her children - Donald (Doris) Cochran of Wheeler, Illinois; Rickey (Peg) Cochran of Wheeler, Illinois; Rodney (Marsha) Cochran of Newton, Illinois; and Theressa Wagner of Newton, Illinois. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Michelle (Chris) Jessie, Sara (Kelly) Zumbahlen, Ryan (Trish) Cochran, Hutch (Michelle) Wagner, Jake (Ashley) Wagner, Emily (Tim) Willenborg, Jud (Donna) Cochran, Kimberly Cochran, Crystal (Will) Hembree and Dana (Nate) McQuillen. She is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and her sister Eloise Butler of Newton, Illinois; and numerous nieces and nephews. Wilma was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother. She was a 2nd mother to most of the kids in the old neighborhood where her kids grew up. She was happiest when she was surrounded by family. As the family historian, she kept track of the distant relatives and family friends all over the United States and loved to visit them. Wilma loved to travel, if the wheels were rolling, she was ready to go.

Wilma was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence, her parents, brother Bernell Clagg, sister Arlene Rife, brothersin-law Sylvan Rife, Maurice Rife and Floyd Butler and sister and brothers-in-law Peggy Clagg, Opal and Bob Downham and Ruby Bangert Uebinger.
