Mr. Harry Gene Cornwell, age 91, passed away Friday December 10, 2021 at Cardinal Rehabilitation Center in Lincolnton.

He is survived by one daughter, Tammy Cornwell Ritchie and husband Nash of Deep Gap, NC; three stepchildren, (Retired) US Airforce Major Randy Hayes of Boiling Springs, NC, Pastor Jeff Hayes and wife Pam, Steve Brown and wife Quoc all of Shelby; one brother, (Retired) US Marine Corps. Lt. Col. Larry Cornwell of Shelby; one Grandchild, Anna Ritchie; step grandchildren, Chad, Jennifer, Sarah, Susan, Stephen, Leah, Jacob, Ayden, and Gena; and 10 Great Grandchildren

Born in Cleveland County, NC on July 22, 1930, he was the son of the late Thomas Martin and Lula Spangler Cornwell. He was also preceded in death by his wife Patricia Church Cornwell; seven siblings, Tom Cornwell, Jr., Max Cornwell, Inez Royster, Faye Cornwell Teague, MaryBelle Jensen, Jane Boddie, and Ruth Cornwell Allen; two grandchildren, Heather, and Karen.

A Graveside service will be held 2pm Monday December 13, 2021, officiated by Dr. Tim Elmore. The family will receive friends immediately follow the service at the graveside.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Zion Baptist Church, 525 West Zion Church Road, Shelby, NC 28150.
