Luke Charles Johnson, age 28, of Saint Johns, Florida passed away on Sunday, September 19, 2021. Luke was born July 14, 1993.
With deepest sorrow, we share that Luke Charles Johnson, age 28 our beloved son, brother, father, grandson, family member and friend passed suddenly on Sunday, September 19, 2021. Luke was born to Curtis and Melody Johnson on July 14, 1993 in Melbourne, Florida. A Vigil Service and visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, September 30, 2021 from 5:00-7:30 p.m, at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 11801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32223, 904-288-0025. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 1, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., at San Juan Del Rio Catholic Church, 1718 FL-13, Jacksonville, FL 32259. The Rite of Committal will be celebrated on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at Eau Gallie Cemetery, Avocado Avenue & Masterton, Street, Melbourne, FL 32935. Luke's favorite colors were in the happy palette: blue, pink/salmon, green and purple. The family encourages guests to wear one of these colors in honor of Luke. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, Luke's family would appreciate donations to his name to Outward Bound USA Scholarship Fund at www.outwardbound.org or the Humane Society memorial gift at www.humanesociety.org Luke will be missed everyday by his father, Curtis, his mother, Melody, brothers Kevin and Jacob, his Significant Other Megan and his son Jayce, his "Nana" Julia Johnson, Grandfather Robert and Kathy Johnson, his loving Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and many great friends. We know Luke is now with his twin brothers Curtis and Kyle Johnson, his Grandparents "Poppy" Holly and Grandma Emma Lou Hayes, his Great Grandparents Isabel "Memaw" and Lawrence Curtis "Pepaw" Jones, and Great Grandparents Robert Edgar and Miriam Johnson. Luke worked as a concrete finisher and was loved by his co-workers. His happiness came from being in the outdoors, fishing, kayaking and being near any type of water – ocean, lake, or river – with his Dad Curtis and brothers Kevin, Jacob and friends. Luke was generous, kind hearted, and always willing to help those in need. Luke always greeted you with his beautiful smile and easily made friends wherever he ventured. Luke was fearless from an early age. Full of energy, he would bound down the boardwalk stairs to get to the beach and ocean. He was the first in line to jump on the zip line over the New River Gorge on a family vacation in West Virginia. While the other family members chose to ride a raft on the New River, Luke rode a duckie over the rapids, smiling all the way. He spent 72 days in the wilderness with Outward Bound and he loved the experience. On this challenging adventure, he saw the Northern Lights in Minnesota and hiked the Chihuahuan Desert in West Texas along the Rio Grande. Luke spent his first five years in Melbourne, Florida. "Poppy" Holly was his daytime nanny. Poppy taught him two important skills: how to fish and dance like a mountaineer. Luke spent many fun times with his "Nana" Julia and "Memaw" Isabel. He loved to snuggle on their Friday night sleep overs, trips to Home Depot to build a birdhouse, and taking his first plane ride with Nana joyfully looking out the window. Luke loved playing sports, especially baseball. He played for many years as catcher at all levels of baseball from Tee-ball through traveling teams to St. Johns River State College. Luke's family, his most avid fans, followed him all over the state of Florida with the loudest cheering section. Luke left us with many great memories and fun stories. One favorite family vacation on Sanibel Island, Luke in a single kayak and his Dad Curtis and brother Jacob in a small motorboat were fishing Tarpon Bay when suddenly a big storm came in from the Gulf. Curtis and Jacob found shelter on the shores of an island worried that Luke had gone too far out in the bay. His Mother Melody and aunts were watching anxiously onshore when Luke power paddled through the wind and rain smiling triumphantly lifting his catch for photos. The day ended at the Pink Flamingo with lots of laughter, fish tales, surviving the storm stories, and a delicious meal of the catch prepared by the chef. We will deeply miss this beautiful, fun-loving man.
