Agnes Irene Staveski, (nee Smitek), age 93, a life-long Lorain County resident, passed away peacefully on the morning of Monday November 29, 2021. Agnes was born in North Ridgeville on January 11, 1928. She attended grades one through eight at St. Peter Parish School and later graduated from North Ridgeville High School as a member of the Class of 1945. While there, she was a dedicated fan of the varsity basketball team. Following her graduation, she embarked on a career in the baking industry that spanned more than three decades. She began as a cake decorator at the Central Bakery and subsequently worked in the same capacity at Hough Bakeries. Most recently, she served as the bakery manager for the Rini-Rego supermarket which was located in the Westgate Shopping Complex on Lorain's Westside. A member of United Food and Commercial Worker's Local 880' she officially retired in the early 1970's. Agnes was a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church where she was also a member of the Marian Guild. A devoted fan of the Cleveland Indians, she enjoyed playing bingo, day trips to local casinos, and trips to Las Vegas in her free time. Agnes is survived by sons Gene Staveski (Debrah) of Lorain, and Randy Staveski of Amherst along with daughter Nancy Udovich (Terry) of Vermilion. She was also the devoted grandmother of Melissa Staveski-Kane (Bob), Joseph Staveski, Claire Staveski, Tony Udovich, and Terra McAdams (Tyler) and loving "GG" to Ryan Staveski and Nathan Kane. Additional survivors include her brother John Smitek of Avon and sister Carolyn Forthofer of Elyria. Agnes was preceded in death by her husband Ralph in 2013, parents Nicholas and Sophia (nee Mrosek) Smitek, grandchildren Nikki Leah, Steven, and Jean Debrah, and siblings Margaret Smith, Frank Smitek, Jim Smitek, Helen Mahl, George Smitek, Ed Smitek, and Verne Dewald. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday beginning with closing prayers at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church – 1305 East Erie Avenue, Lorain.
