Christian Schmalz, when 33 years old, enlisted in the Union Army at Waconia, Carver County, MN as a Private. On 2/19/1862 he mustered into "E" Co. MN 5th Infantry and was wounded on 12/16/1864 at Nashville, TN. He was Mustered Out on 9/6/1865 at Fort Snelling, MN.
