Dorothy Lane, age 80, of Rutherfordton, passed away Saturday, November 27, 2021 at her residence.

Dorothy was born Saturday, August 30, 1941 in McDowell County, NC to the late James Arthur Baucom and Nonnie Vee Hollifield Baucom. She was a graduate of R-S Central High School, class of 1959. Dorothy was a longtime employee of Tanner/Doncaster where she worked as a supervisor. She was a talented musician, artist, and storyteller. She and her storytelling partner, Nancy Giles, performed in local schools, libraries, and festivals, telling captivating stories of Mountain Folklore. She was a faithful member of the Rutherfordton Presbyterian Church where she served as a former deacon, Sunday School teacher and choir member. She will be remembered as a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of forty-one years, Thomas Reid Lane; daughters, Jane Cannon of Portland, Oregon, Karen Ligotino of Apex, NC, Laura Wise of Bessemer City, NC and son, Michael Lane of Rutherfordton; five sisters, Gladys Patrick of Lenoir, NC, Ruby Shehan of Marion, Annie Greene (David) of Nebo, NC, Nancy Franklin (Steve) of Newland, Mary Ramsey of Marion and brother, Jim Baucom (Carolyn) of Spruce Pine. She is also survived by grandchildren, Philip Spencer, Sara Wise, Jackson Cort, Christian Cort and three great-grandchildren, Alice Smith, Leon Lane, Charlotte Lane and a host of nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Dorothy's life will be conducted on a date, soon to be announced. The service will take place at the Rutherfordton Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. Don Scofield officiating.
