Thomas had arrived in Illinois 1832. He was on the first jury of Circuit Court 1832. Source: Will Co History, p.313. This history gives his birthplace as KY.; he sold out abt. 1858 -60 went to Iowa, where he died; also, that he had gone to Calif in 1849-50 and to Pike's Peak in 1859.

Note: Aunt Belle Alexander gave the following description of Thomas: " A kindly looking though firm countenance framed in unkempt looking hair and an uneven beard. His shirt appears to be of black and white checked Linsey-Woolsy, and was buttoned at the throat with no semblance of a tie, and one white button showing plainly. He wore a coat and vest and the vest looks as if it were made of velvet. He wore no mustache, but his beard was shaved below his mouth but extended up the side of his face to the hair coming down over the ears. His high forehead, bushy eyebrows, and straight forward look betoken the true pioneer. His rather wide mouth is a feature of the Reed family as several of my grandmother's sisters and brothers have the same features."
