Vonnie Edith Bass Corley, 92 of Morganton, NC died Sunday, December 11, 2016 at her residence. She was born in Pekin, NC on January 19, 1924 to the late Jeptha James Bass and Sarah Lula Cable Bass.

She graduated in 1941 from Mountain View School in Catawba County where she was class Valedictorian. In 1949, Mrs. Bass graduated from Grace Hospital School of Nursing. She was a Registered Nurse at Western Carolina Center from 1964 until her retirement in May 1986. Mrs. Corley was an active member of First United Methodist Church where she was also involved in the Aldersgate Class and the United Methodist Women. In her community, Mrs. Corley served as a member and past Councilor of the Junior Order of the United American Mechanic, Burkemont Council Women's Assembly, a member and past president of the Pilot Club, and member of the Variety Club of Morganton. She was an avid bridge player.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Corley was preceded in death by brothers, Ronas William Bass, Thornwell Leo Bass, Roy Newton Bass, JJ (Billy) Bass, Jr., and Jennings Brian Bass and sisters, Rosa Melton and Annie Robinson.

The memorial service will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 14, 2016 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
