This memorial is based on a military application for a headstone that indicates that he is buried here as well as an obituary in the newspaper. His obituary is dated 10 Dec 1957 and reads as follows: Funeral services for Oscar E. Bass, 68, of 1630 3rd Ave, who died Sunday in a local hospital, were conducted today at Brown-Service Norwood Chapel, with Rev. Charles C. Bowles officiating. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery. A native of Birmingham, Mr. Bass served as secretary of local 725 before retiring from the Birmingham Transit Co. He was a member of the "Old Faithful" Sunday School Class at the Hunter Street Baptist Church. He is the son of, Robert Monroe Bass and Nancy (Goodwin) Bass. He is survived by his wife, Mrs Nell Nix Bass, a son Gene Bass, three sisters; Mrs Nora Woods of Lakeshore, Ohio, Mrs Lela Wilson and Mrs Cora Blackstock, both of Birmingham; and two brothers, Joe and Malone Bass of Birmingham.
